How to Merge Multiple PDFs into One Document

Combining multiple PDF files into a single, organized document is straightforward with this browser-based tool. Upload your PDFs by dragging and dropping them into the upload area, or click to browse and select multiple files at once.

After uploading, drag files to reorder them, or use the arrow buttons for keyboard navigation. The final merged PDF will follow the exact sequence displayed in your queue. When ready, click Merge and download your unified document.

The entire process runs locally in your browser using the pdf-lib library. Your documents are never transmitted to any server, making this tool suitable for sensitive business documents, legal contracts, academic papers, and personal records.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reorder PDFs before merging?
After uploading your PDFs, drag and drop any file in the queue to a new position. Alternatively, use the up/down arrow buttons next to each file for keyboard navigation. The numbered badges update automatically to reflect the new order.
Are my PDFs secure and private?
Yes. The entire merging process happens locally within your web browser using the pdf-lib library. Your PDFs are never uploaded to any server or transmitted over the internet, keeping your documents completely private and secure.
Is there a limit to how many PDFs I can merge?
There is no artificial limit imposed by the tool. However, since processing happens in your browser, very large files or hundreds of PDFs may take longer to merge depending on your device's available memory. For typical use cases (dozens of PDFs), performance is excellent.
Can I remove a PDF from the queue after uploading?
Yes. Hover over any PDF in the queue and click the X button to remove it. You can also use the "Clear All" button at the top of the queue to start over completely.
Will the quality of my PDFs be preserved?
Yes. The pdf-lib library performs a direct merge of PDF pages without re-encoding or compressing content. Your original text, images, vectors, and formatting are preserved exactly as they appear in the source documents.
Is this tool really free with no ads?
Yes. This tool is completely free with no ads, no tracking, and no signup required. Unlike other PDF tools that display intrusive ads or upload your documents to their servers, this tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Why is there no preview before downloading?
To keep the merger lightweight, fast, and privacy-focused, we intentionally omit an in-browser preview. Rendering PDF pages would require additional libraries that increase load time and complexity. Download your merged PDF and open it in your preferred PDF viewer—it will be ready instantly with all pages in the order you specified.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
No. Password-protected or encrypted PDFs cannot be merged. You will need to remove the password protection using the original PDF software before uploading. The tool will show a clear error message if you attempt to add an encrypted file.
What happens if I upload a duplicate file?
Duplicate files (same name, same size, same modification time) are automatically skipped to prevent accidental duplicates in your merge. An informational message will appear showing how many duplicates were skipped.
